Staff who have to make use of operational models for hydrological forecasting require specific training in the use of real-time models. One of the frequent difficulties in carrying out this type of training activity is the lack of historical data on storm events. Records are often insufficient to gain experience in a wide range of possibilities.
Ges, the synthetic storm events generator, offers a solution for this, since, based on a simple definition of one or several storms for a period of time, it generates the rain fields and performs a hydrological simulation that will result in hydrographs at points that can be considered as measured flows.

The results of Ges can be used as data for the rest of the modules, as if it were a real time operational use.

The application will facilitate, among others, training in:

 

• Calibration of parameters. - The hydrological simulation of Ges can be based on combinations of parameters that hydrologists in training should try to find out by calibrating with the operational modules.

• Analyzing the influence of the displacement of a storm front. - The comparison of storms moving upstream with those moving downstream can be interesting, in order to calibrate propagation times and to understand the response of the basin.

• Influence of storm intensity and duration.

• Coincidence of hydrographic peaks, basin hydrologic response and reservoir outflows

• Flood control with reservoir operation
